Description

Many can't imagine how two genres could be more different than horror and romance. But the underlying mechanisms of how they work are actually quite similar, and the exploration of the (perhaps) surprising connections between them can help editors better understand the genres — and better serve their clients.

In this presentation, James Gallagher digs into the major beats, themes, and reader expectations of these magnificent genres. Covering everything from HEAs and evil that never dies to meet-cutes and monsters, this presentation celebrates two genres close to the presenter’s heart.

About the speaker

James Gallagher, owner of Castle Walls Editing, has edited for indie authors and for publishers such as Hachette Book Group, Macmillan, Catapult, and Thomas & Mercer. While primarily a copy editor, James also provides developmental editing and proofreading services. James’s favorite genres to edit are horror and romance, and James is proud to be part of the ever-changing and endlessly invigorating editing community.
